The overall industry in the UK
provides almost a tenth of the UK's
gross domestic product and employs over 1 million people. Our
construction industry is one of the strongest in the world despite the
recent economic challenges, with output ranked in the global top ten. UK
designers, civil engineers, contractors, component and product
manufacturers have a worldwide reputation and many are in demand
overseas. The house-building sector of this industry has gone through a
tough recession yet remains resilient. It continues to work to overcome
the current problems and look to the future where strong demand for
housing is likely.
Planning

banks, immigration levels, social change such as increasing divorce
rates and the growth of Buy-to-Let in the last decade all combine to
present a complex picture of our housing needs.

The housing market
The rising demands of a population that is both
increasing, and ageing, results in a need for more homes. The
Government has set ongoing targets and hopes to close the gap between
supply and demand that is currently masked by the lack of available
finance.
There have been changes to the rights of people renting their homes in
recent years which should create safeguards and encourage more people
to rent. It is believed that these reforms will help keep cowboy
landlords out of the system and encourage a newer breed of responsible,
professionals to flourish.
